BLASTING THE CENTER Home | Traps | Endgames | Puzzles | Library | About me White: MoltenThinker(2215) Black: Peter-Patzer(2257) Time Control: 1 minute + no increment Event: 2005 ICC Atomic Championships The game began with 1. Nf3 f6 2. d4 d5 3. g3 Ng6 4. Ne5 Ng4 5. Nxg4 Bg4 6. f3 Bh3 7. Bxh3. It is unclear whether the in-between-move Bg4 is good for black, the idea is to delay Qh5 traps by one tempo. 7... e6 8. e4 Na6 9. b4 c6 10. o-o and we came to this position: Here white have a massive space advantage. White can attack in the center of the kingside, but first they must secure the queenside. 10... g6 11. c4 Bh6 12. Bg5 o-o 13. c5! Black had to play that move, now their counterattack chances have been greatly diminished. 13... Nc7 14. a4 a5 15. b5. It is unclear whether white needed to make that push, perhaps it was better to attack right away, say with h4-h4, e5, f4 or Qd2. 15... cxb5 16. Na3 Nb5 17. Nxb5. Perhaps, axb5 was better but its more risky. 17... b5 18. c6 Qc7. 19. Qc2 b4 20. Qb3 Rfb8. A more interesting option for black: 20... Qa7 21. e5 Qa6 22. Qd3. Anyway, the game continued: 21. Rac1 Bf8 22. Bh6 Bxh6 23. Rc5 Rc6 24. Rb5 Rxb5. After 24. Rxa5 Rxa4 25. Ra1 b3 26. Ra8+ Qc8! the game is drawn. 25. exd5 Rd8 26. Kh1. White's plan is clear: removal of the e6 pawn. 26... Rd5. 27. f4 Rh5 28. h4 Rd5 29. g4 f5 30. Re1 fxg4 31. Rxe6. Peter-Patzer didn't have enough time to think about resigning, so the game lasted two more moves. |
